Early Beginnings

Taivy is a fashion designer and content creator based in New York. She got her start in fashion in 2016 by attending NCC on Long Island where she learned draping, pattern making, and illustration. Her dream has always been to dress people for the most important events in their lives- head to toe in designer gowns. 

Taivy attended the Fashion Institute of Technology from 2018 to 2020 where she subsequently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Entrepreneurship. During this two-year period Taivy launched her youtube channel, "Designer Taivy" for sewing tutorials, fashion content, and weekly vlogs. In her free time, she got her start working with individual clients, and learned about e-commerce through her first site, "designertaivyshop" on Etsy.com.

As a production assistant intern for Carol Hannah in Fall 2022, Taivy immersed herself into the luxury bridal space and assisted with maintaining the showroom, organizing the studio, and learned about vendors and textile companies in the fashion district.

EMPRIS (2016 to Present)

EMPRIS began as an early idea when Taivy was about 20 years old in fashion design school. She knew that she wanted to create her own brand and that it would have a whimsical feel and style. Inspired by ideas of royalty and grandeur she wrote down the phrase EMPRIS as a way to cleverly say "Empress." An Empress is graceful, powerful and beloved in her mind. EMPRIS seeks to tell an enchanting story of honor and romance. Achievement and Wonder. Taking it a step further, the letters for EMPRIS form an acronym for Excellence, Muse, Power, Royalty, Inspire and Soul. These are the attributes that influence a lot of the design process.

Design Influences:

 When it comes to fashion design, Taivy loves to tap into fantasy and wild imagination. An early influence on her design style is Alexander McQueen. He was a magnificent force and left an impression that will continue to live on as his style occasionally shows up in the collections of modern designers. What Taivy loves about McQueen was his ability to bring the audience into a world that seemed to actually exist in another realm and feed the world bits of his twisted fantasy that left us enthralled forever. Fashion is enchanting, strange, dark, and exciting. She loves that not everything is so easily understood or received, but the conversation never ends once our interest is piqued. 

If the world were a great ball, she'd dance forever. Elie Saab is another inspiration for Taivy. She loves his delicate and regal approach to design. Respectable and adored, Saab has dressed royalty in his hand-beaded downs and accessories. Taivy learned the time and respect that goes into creating a precious design fit for the grandest of celebrations. It if her dream to some day meet Elie Saab and show her appreciation for his knowledge and craft.
